My Morning Routine - How To Set Your Day Up For Success

A question I get asked a lot about is my morning routine.

A good morning routine I believe is integral to success.

But, that's not to say that my morning routine is perfect and if you follow it you will see results too.

No... it doesn't work like that.

You need your own morning routine that WORKS FOR YOU.

We all have different habits, different lifestyles, different time constraints.

So what works for me.... well there's a good chance it will not work for you.

You need to find something that might feel like a small challenge when you first start out (as all change should feel a little bit challenging), but not so dramatic that you give up after a few days.

So what can you do to set your day up for success?

Well there are a few key things that I believe should be in everyone's morning routine so I am going to run through them so you can start your day feeling inspired, uplifted, motivated and ENERGISED!

*Note, I still feel a bit drowsy and consider hitting snooze a few times before I wake up on some mornings. You won't feel like bouncing out of bed every day, but you will feel energised by the end of your routine.

1. Wake Up - No Snoozing

The more you delay starting the day, the more you will bring a negative vibe into your day.

Commit to waking up when your alarm goes off.

If you are still tired when you alarm goes off, try going to bed 15 to 30 minutes earlier (that's usually how long you snooze for anyway).

2. Drink a big glass of water / lemon water

We get dehydrated overnight, so drinking a big glass of water first thing will help hydrate you and wake your body up.

Citrus is great at stimulating you to wake up too.

So lemon water makes a great combination to help you re-hydrate, detoxify and kickstart your day.

3. Read

If I don't read first thing in the morning, I struggle to find time throughout the day.

I read so many books when I commit to 5 to 10 minutes reading time every single morning.

I also feel more inspired, more uplifted and have so many more ideas when I read. It really is a great way to start the day.

You can choose to read whatever you like. I read personal development books, business books, vegan pregnancy and parenting books. Very rarely I'll read a fiction book but mostly I read books I can learn from.

4. Meditation / Breathing

Then I'll move onto a five to ten minute meditation. This allows me to clear my mind and set my focus and intentions for the day.

This really helps me get centred and prepare myself mentally for the day ahead.

5. Journal

After meditation, I journal.

I write out 3 wins from yesterday, 3 things I am grateful for, my goals and any other inspired thoughts I had while doing meditation.

I find that when I journal my mindset is a lot more positive, I achieve a lot more, and a lot more opportunities come to me.

I don't know whether I notice it more because I am recognising what I am grateful for, being present, and acknowledging my progress... or whether it is because the universe provides me with more when I am expressing my gratitude.

Whatever is causing it, I certainly notice a positive side effect.

6. Walk & Stretching

The final part of my morning routine is walking and stretching.

In the morning our natural cortisol level rises, and to work in with this (especially if you have trouble sleeping) it is good to get up and go for a morning walk.

I usually do this fasted, but I am pregnant at the moment so I have to eat beforehand now.

I will walk for usually 30 - 60 minutes and take some time to do some yoga/stretching.

I walk at a pace where my heart rate is up, but I could still hold a conversation.

Going for a morning walk puts me in a good mood for the day, it means that no matter what happens throughout the day I have done some form of exercise and it gets me closer to hitting my 10,000 step target for the day.

So there you have it, my morning routine.

I pretty much follow it day in, day out. On days where I am rushed or have something on I might just do the water, reading, meditation & journaling and skip my walk... but generally I like to get out and about for a walk when I can.

Obviously when Pokey arrives, things may change... and that's okay.

But I will do my best to create a similar inspiring morning routine that works in with my new lifestyle.

I hope this has inspired you to create your perfect morning. Let me know in the comments what your morning routine looks like.
