9 Simple Ways To Detox Your Body (Part 1 of 3)

Remember when you were young and your mum asked you to clean up your room? And you really couldn’t be bothered so you would do a general tidy up and then pushed all of the stuff under your bed?

I did that… a lot.

And you may trick your mum one or two times, but eventually you get caught out and you can’t stuff any more stuff under the bed.

Our bodies are a bit the same.

We focus so much on making them look pretty, we get our nails done, our hair done, wear make up…. but we sweep our internal health under the bed and hope that we don’t get caught out.

Well eventually one day you will. You’ll get sick, you’ll get rundown and you may even get a debilitating disease.

This week I am going to be looking a 9 simple ways you can detoxify your body and clean out all of the crap you have put into your system!

You don’t need to spend lots of money on tea-toxes that don’t do much at all (except give you the runs), detox pills that supposedly “do something” (but I’m not quite sure what….) or do anything too extreme…. like just drink water for 14 days.

These are going to be really simple tips to help you take the burden off your organs and help you detox properly.


Don’t think you can do this and then go back to your bad old habits and maintain the benefits. It doesn’t work like this.

You should be using this as a reboot to help create some new healthier habits and build a better relationship with food and your health!

Your body is pretty good at 'detoxing' on its own, but you need to take hand breaks off so that it can do it effectively. This blog series will be based around common sense ways to help you detox and take the burden off your system to allow it to do it's thing properly! 

1. Eat Whole Food Plant Based

This may seem like a no-brainer to some, but for others it can be quite challenging! Fill your plates with natural foods that come from a wide variety of plants! Plants are alkalising and they provide you with all the vital vitamins and minerals you need. Aim to get as many different plants in as high volumes into your diet as possible. Don’t freak out too much on portion size, it is very difficult to overeat when it comes to plants, especially fibrous greens, as they are nutrient dense and have few calories so your hunger mechanisms will kick in and tell you are full long before you overeat!

If you eat meat, cut it out completely. Change your plate around so that your salad or veggies are the biggest portion on your plate then have with a side of plant based protein like tofu, tempeh, beans or lentils.

2. Drink Lots of Water

I cannot stress the importance of drinking enough good quality H2O every day! Most of us do not drink enough.

Yes it is boring if you are used to tea, coffee, sodas and juices, but your body needs it!

Start your day with a big glass of lemon water (fresh lemon squeezed into water). If you are worried about your teeth sip through a straw.

This helps hydrate your body after sleeping and not taking in any fluid overnight.

This is also the easiest way to start adding more water to your day. If you have 500ml to 1 litre before you even have breakfast, you have less litres to drink throughout the day!

By staying hydrated you will also decrease hunger as sometimes our body/brain connection gets confused and we can mistake thirst for hunger.

Another water ‘hack’ is to drink 500ml to 1 litre of water about 30 - 40 mins before you eat and you will be less inclined to overeat and you will easy get your water intake up. You don’t want to drink immediately before (or with your meal), especially if you do have problems with digestion.

3. Dry Brush

I know you are probably wondering how you are going to find the time to add another thing into your busy schedule, but trust me you will WANT to do this.

Dry brushing is really fantastic for stimulating the lymphatic system which helps purge unwanted toxins through the skin. It also gets rid of dry and dead skin cells, leaving your skin nice and soft!

It also can help assist in improving circulation, which is a bonus for those of you suffering from cellulite.

To dry brush correctly brush in a circular motion toward your heart taking nice long strokes. Do it before you jump in the shower of a morning to get your day off to a fantastic start. 

Now remember... you don't have to implement every single one of these tips to see results. Get started on ones that feel easiest to you right now.
